Perry County
is a rural county with agricultural roots in dairy and poultry production. Its
population is estimated at approximately 41,000. Artisans and craftspeople work
in the area, however, many commuters travel to work outside the county
returning home each day to the tranquility of country living. Its forest and
wooded lands are renowned hunting areas and the many streams, rivers and lakes
provide excellent trout and bass fishing.
Reminiscent of times gone by, the fourteen covered bridges of Perry County date
back as early as the 1860's.
Twenty-four historic mills also dot the hills and valleys of Perry County. Many
have ceased operation; however, a few still produce products like feed, grain,
flour and cornmeal.
